Once again the excuses all come down to money. No matter how much you have - that is never enough. Just as the team who will likely finish second blame the riches of their neighbours, a team relegated down a division are bitten by the hand that fed them so generously in the first place - the takeover!
Talking about Man City this weekend, Sir Alex Ferguson showed that possibly his memory is not what it was.
"Nobody can match their financial power, no one,” Ferguson said.
“You have to accept that so we do it a different way. We have to look at younger players. It’s been insane for a while, for a long time, and I think clubs like City create that.
Clubs like City? Does he mean Manchester United?
Forgive us for reminding him but 18 year old Wayne Rooney was purchased from Everton for £27 million ( the world's most expensive teenager).
Andy Cole from Newcastle for £7 million was a British transfer record at the time.
Juan Veron from Lazio for £28 million was a British transfer record at the time.
Rio Ferdinand from Leeds for £29 million was a British transfer record at the time.
Chickens came home to roost a Ewood Park this week and it was opportune that the weather matched the atmosphere at the ground as protests against the owners and the manager continued.
However it is hard to feel sorry for those fans who have indeed contributed to the sad demise of the club this season.
Regardless of the arguments that the owners have reneged on promises made and sold some influential players, if the manager and team had been given unqualified support during the season the end could have been much different.
The abuse Steve Kean has had to endure has been intolerable and the comments from Bradley Orr after the home game with Wigan should make Blackburn fans think again.
"He's done everything he could to push us in the right direction and motivate us.
"The tactics, training, everything - one man who can look in the mirror and say he's given everything is the manager.
"I'll speak for the dressing room and thank him for what he's done, he's taken things on the chin that he shouldn't have had to.
"The supporters voice their opinions in whatever way they want towards the owners, the players and the manager. Sometimes a line can be crossed and the way the gaffer's handled things is exemplary.
"He's certainly the best I've worked with as far as managers go.
"It's easy for people to pass the buck but the reality is the group of players fell short, it's us that need to take responsibility. We've let the gaffer down because everything he's done has been geared to pushing us forward and we haven't done that."
Blackburn fans didn't mind the takeover. They just didn't like the result of the gamble that did not pay off.
