Liverpool Pub Crawl - Red Lion

The Red Lion is a new pub located at 36 Slater Street, Liverpool, known for its 1940s pub-inspired design with Victorian stylings. The pub features a bespoke Victorian mahogany bar supplied by Taylor's Classics, along with other antique and reclaimed furniture. It's situated in the city center and is easily accessible from Central train station. Converted into a traditional pub from a terraced house in 2022, to look at the place, you'd think it had been a local pub since the 1930s, but this is an adventurous and ambitious conversion from a terraced house to a retro-traditional pub. Hanging nik-nacs, low lighting, bare walls and wooden panels create the atmosphere with a Games room and an interior courtyard.

It has now been recognised as one of the best in Europe, with experts praising it as "a naturally characterful venue" and it is included in The European Bar Guide's list of the best venues to visit in Liverpool, alongside a handful of other city establishments. The bar guide gave the retro pub a score of 7.8 out of a possible 10, scoring it especially highly in the category dedicated to style and décor. The guide also praised it when it came to the choice and quality of drinks, pointing out that customers are able to choose from three to four cask ales, with the venue focusing on local independent breweries, as well as having a strong gin selection and 'competent' back bar.

Serving cask ales and lagers, pies, pork scratchings, classic spirits and cocktails as well as having dominoes sets, a dart board and television showing sports, this exciting venue has been described as a "true pub lover's pub!", with the look and feel inspired by 1940s pubs & referring to Victorian stylings. Working with Rob Gutmann, Taylor's Classics supplied their exclusive bespoke Victorian mahogany bar, as well as an array of furniture including Bentwood stools, cast iron table bases paired with marble tops, hand picked Antique & reclaimed products, and made to order Glasgow benches. Upon entering, the wooden floored bar area is located to the right where there’s seating in the front window and a serving counter is found on the right wall that faces the old doorway that has been turned into a double sided beer shelf. A flight of stairs run up the left-hand wall to the toilets on the first floor. At the rear is a long room with a stool lined beer shelf up the left and seating up the right with copper topped tables. At the rear is a step down to an enclosed L-shaped patio with seating. The ceilings inside are dotted with hanging oddities such as satchels, copper items and old teapots and outside there are two outdoor areas which facilitate great beer garden settings.
