A History Of Liverpool Thespians - Lauren O'Neil

 

Lauren O'Neil was born Lauren Frances Rogers in 1983 in Liverpool, the eldest daughter of two dentists. She left Liverpool to attend the University of Glasgow before returning to Liverpool to complete an English degree. It was there that she first took up acting and attended the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, graduating in 2009 and was awarded the 2009 Spotlight Showcase prize for Best Actress. Her professional debut was as the character Kirsty in a Series 2 episode of the BBC drama 'Being Human' (2010) and her stage debut came at the National Theatre where she played Bianca in Marianne Elliot's revival of 'Women Beware Women' (2010). Her first feature film lead was as Nina in 'The Abominable Snowman' (2013). Her career is a mixture of TV and stage work with her appearances on TV being quite sporadic. 2010 saw her appear in episodes of 'The Bill', 'Inspector Lewis' and 'Law & Order:UK' and in 2011 she was in 'Doctors' and 'Phone Shop'.

In 2012 she appeared in two premieres at the National Theatre: in Nicholas Wright's 'Travelling Light' and James Graham's 'This House' and then in a horror film 'Perseveration' (2013). The following year she appeared at the Chichester Festival Theatre in 'King Lear' alongside Frank Langella and with Martin Freeman in 'Richard III'  with The Jamie Lloyd Company with Martin playing Regan and Lauren as Lady Anne respectively. In 2015 she appeared in a 2-part episode 'Squaring the Circle' in Series 18 of the BBC One series 'Silent Witness' as young City DI Sarah Parks and also played Miss Winston in the TV series 'No Offence' (2015). She next played Rowena Deeley in the 'Midsomer Murders' (2016) season 18's finale 'Harvest of Souls'. Back on stage she appeared as Steph in the UK premiere of Neil LaBute's 'Reasons to be Happy' at The Hampstead Theatre in 2016, followed by the West End transfers of 'This House' at the Garrick Theatre (2016) and 'The Twilight Zone' (2019) at the Ambassadors Theatre. The year 2019 saw her back on TV in 'Father Brown' and 'London Kills', the following year in 'Casualty' (2020) and finally in the TV series 'Grace' (2021) and 'Queens of Mystery' (2021).

In 2022, she played Romaine Vole in 'Witness For The Prosecution' at London County Hall.

Then in 2023, she originated the role of Angie in the world premiere of James Graham's adaptation of Alan Bleasdale's 'Boys from the Blackstuff' at Liverpool's Royal Court, and its subsequent transfer to the National Theatre and the West End in 2024 where she also joined the cast of 'Stranger Things:The First Shadow' as Virginia Creel in the West End in the same year.
