Pool Of Sound - MT Jones

From the bustling streets of Liverpool emerges a musical prodigy like no other. Born in Ellesmere Port, he now calls Liverpool home. With accolades from BBC Introducing and BBC Merseyside under his belt, MT Jones is a force to be reckoned with and has travelled the world as a session musician and influential singer songwriter, playing live for artists like Jalen and Louis Berry, but is now creating his own path and unique journey. With 60s and 70s inspiration, he brings a timeless and classic sound to the streets of Liverpool. With pure, stylish, crooning vocals the singer songwriter somehow transports you to those very years but it feels fresh, new and exciting. His Dad introduced him to 'The Beatles' and he remembers having an MP3 player with every Beatle song on it and was always drawn to 60s music and lots of soul music. He started playing piano at about 8 years of age, as his uncle played piano by ear, and his dad also played the guitar. It was his uncle coming over to play their old, beat-up piano by ear, playing a lot of jazz songs, that was his first introduction to music and he was really drawn to that. Busking at 12 years old, he was in a few bands at school and at that time writing lots of songs, learning his craft, that put him in good stead for the future. He had piano lessons when he was at uni in Liverpool but no formal training. He was also veering off into Jazz and became obsessed with Ray Charles and then into Motown and Stax.

Having done his touring with Lewis Berry, his smooth, stylish vocals have taken him around the globe, playing live with artists like Jalen N'Gonda, who he met at university and who he went on to tour with. From festivals in Europe and the US, even supporting Lauryn Hill, initially, he played bass for Jalen before their paths crossed again when he supported him on tour while he pursued his solo career. At some point, he signed on with fellow Liverpudlian Louis Berry’s backing ensemble, first on bass and then keyboards, and was having the time of his life. Over the years, they've collaborated on numerous tracks, including 'Feeling Lonely' from his second release. He's been in the studio playing piano for 'Motel Sundown', an 'Americana' band based in Liverpool who are close friends of his. He released his first single, 'I Won’t Ever Say Goodbye' in late 2022, and has followed it up with a steady stream of one-offs.

Fresh off the back of his Europe-wide tour supporting Jalen Ngonda, and ahead of his own headline UK tour, he released a new single 'All I Do, the first track lifted from his debut self-titled EP which came out in September 2024. The EP features 3 other tracks showcasing his world class song writing ability and distinctive vocal prowess, with the single co-written with award winning song writer/producer Jonathan Quarmby (Lewis Capaldi / Tom Walker) . On his Facebook page in January 2025 he posted, "So excited to announce that ‘All I Do’ has been added to the @bbcradio2 playlist from Saturday!" With his new track 'Punchin' ' out in April, in May he posted, "Absolutely fizzing to announce my new track Punchin’ has been added to @bbcradio2 B list at new to 2. All my love to everyone who's been spinning the track."
