Nathan McMullen was born in Liverpool on the 13th of June 1988 and in 2003, at the age of 15, was named 'Young Comic of the Year' by the Liverpool Echo during the Liverpool Comic Festival. More than 300 teenagers aged 14 to 18 competed with him in the 12 month whilst he was studying for 10 GCSEs at Woodchurch High School, Birkenhead, For his win, Nathan got 250 pounds, all in pennies. He then studied acting at Liverpool Community College (now known as The City of Liverpool College) and moved on to train at Manchester School of Theatre where he graduated in 2009 with a BA (Hons) Acting.
His first professional roles came in 2010, when he starred in the TV series, 'Casualty' playing Devlan O'Connor in two episodes and also that year played Jack in 'Jack and the Beanstalk' at the West Yorkshire Playhouse in Leeds. He was also a host in Tatlock Towers in 'Coronation Street: A Knight's Tale' ( 2010), the fifth in one of a series of straight to video/DVD spin-off releases In 2011, he started working for the Liverpool Everyman Theatre and starred as Witch 3 and Feance in 'Macbeth'.

There followed 2 episodes as Angel in 'Shameless' (2012) and in 'Kelly + Victor' (2012) before being introduced in Season 4 of the TV series 'Misfits' (2012-13), where he amazingly executed the role of a socially awkward individual (Finn) who is often ridiculed on his optimism and naivety, and on occasion is judged on his height, standing at 5'4". He then appeared as an Elf in the 2014 Doctor Who Christmas Special, 'Last Christmas' and in two episodes of the TV series 'The Driver' (2014).
In 2015 he participated in the stage adaptation of the 1994 comedy film 'The Hudsucker Proxy' by the Coen brothers at the Liverpool Playhouse. However the premier of the play was delayed because Nathan was injured during rehearsals and was one of two cast members left needing hospital treatment after an accident in the dress rehearsal on the 9th of May 2015.

At the Royal Court in Liverpool in 2016, he was a member of the cast of the classic play by Alan Bleasdale, 'Down the Dock Road' and continued his work for the Everyman Theatre in 2018 with 'Our Lady of Blundellsands'; 'The Big I Am', based on Peer Gynt; 'A Clockwork Orange' and 'Paint Your Wagon'. Following its run at Liverpool’s Royal Court, Nathan appeared in Alan Bleasdale’s 'Boys from the Blackstuff' (2024) by James Graham in a Liverpool’s Royal Court production by arrangement with Bill Kenwright Limited at London's South Bank, Olivier Theatre, National Theatre before transferring to the West End’s Garrick Theatre. Ivy Tiller – Vicar’s Daughter and Squirrel Killer' for the RSC; 'Hushabye Mountain' at the Hope Mill; 'Love, Liverpool' at the Liverpool Playhouse; 'Blood Knot' at the Orange Tree; 'Darkness at the Sun Court' for Slunglow; 'The Worm Collector' at West Yorkshire Playhouse and 'Vardy v Rooney: The Wagatha Christie Trial' at the Ambassadors Theatre in London's West End. This was interspersed with two other TV productions when he played a Driver in 'Rose' (2020) and a Pagan Fighter in 'The Lady of Heaven' (2021).
He also works as a tutor in an acting school Act Up North, which has divisions in Liverpool, Manchester and Leeds.
