Jetta John-Hartley is a singer-songwriter and record producer born in Toxteth, Liverpool in 1995 and, at the age of eight, joined her local choir, and by 13 she'd taught herself to play the piano. Having started in acappella choirs from young she then found her place in the Liverpool music scene with her first solo gig at E.B.G.B.S. She says, "My mum was in an acapella quartet, so there were always three other women in my living room singing harmonies. My dad was a sound engineer, so there's definitely the vocal and the sonic side." Her mum is 'Sense of Sound' founder Jennifer John and for her 16th birthday Jetta was gifted the music editing software Logic on which she taught herself to produce music. The former Belvedere pupil says, "I taught myself how to produce by layering acappella harmonies in Logic and then turning those into instruments. In 2007 she struck out on her own with a move to London, distilled her coming-of-age lyrics into the EP 'Start a Riot' and in 2014 released a self-shot music video for the song 'Start a Riot' which gained thousands of views in its first week on YouTube and brought her significant attention. Then in 2015, after pairing up with electronic producer Matstubs on a remix of Jetta's cover of the 'Ten Years After' song 'I'd Love to Change the World' which was used in a trailer for 'Dawn of the Planet of the Apes', the song received further significant attention after being posted to the Trap Nation YouTube channel. It then hit gold, generating over 200 million plays on YouTube, and 120 million on Spotify, becoming her most listened to song.
It was following her first EP in 2014, which was a collaborative EP in that she wrote but didn't produce it, that she decided she was really going to push herself because she always felt like she was missing that extra bit of creativity. In being a producer as well as a singer-songwriter, she was able to express in words how she wanted something to sound, so she decided to teach myself to make it easier. She said, "It's easier for me to play the keys myself, for example, than trying to explain to a producer what I'm hearing in my head." She would layer loads of different vocals and be like: "This vocal part could be the bassline, and this part could be the beat. So I'd kind of build the track using my vocal riffs in a way. And over time, I picked out my favourite sounds and made my own kind of sound bank. So that's how I went from doing vocals into music production."
In 2020, after releasing three EPs including the 2018s excellent 'Tonic', between 2019 and 2020 she released four standalone singles, 'No Fire', 'Livin' ', 'I Wanna Know' and 'Taste'. Her next single 'He Usually Likes Boys' on the 22nd of July 2021 was followed by 'Honey', on the 3rd of December the same year. On the 12th of August 2022, she released the EP 'Livin' ', which was composed of her four previously released singles and two stripped versions of 'Livin' ' and 'No Fire'. Then in 2023 she released a series of back to back, along with self-shot music videos for each single.

Her 2024 album 'Relax,The House Is On Fire' felt like a big statement and Jetta agrees, "It’s my first album – self-made. The concept is 'songs from the chair' and the main character – me – is the producer/scientist at the centre of it all. And then there are multiple other characters unfolding throughout the album – the main sentiment is 'everything’s fine, it’s not ok'." On her Facebook page in March she posted, "I'M PLAYING RADIO 1's BIG WEEKEND IN LIVERPOOL AKA SCOUSELAND - THE LAND IN WHICH I WAS SPAWNED - C’MOOON BRING IT OOON." Then on the 23rd of May, "sun's out baby, big weekend has started, see u tommorrrow half 2 @ bbc introducing stage.
