A History Of Liverpool Thespians - Sophie Colquhoun

Sophie Colquhoun was born on the 12th of September 1989 in Liverpool and, in 2005, she studied at Central St. Martins of the University of the Arts London. At the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts, she studied with 'The Bill' director, Peter Cregeen, and attended the site-specific workshop at Prima del Teatro, along with Charlotte Munksø in Italy. She started off in televison playing a small part in one episode as Pip in 'Rev' (2010) and in one episode as Nikki in 'The It Crowd' (2010). In 2011 she appeared in 'Captain America: The First Avenger' as Bonnie starring alongside Chris Evans, Dominic Cooper and Sebastian Stan; as Susie in 'The Inbetweeners'; in 'Fresh Meat' as Caz and then appeared in the very popular UK comedy 'Phone Shop', Series 2, episode 5 to be precise, The 'Come Dine With Me' episode. Here Sophie was the daughter of a white man that wanted to be affiliated with Jamaican culture, he spoke, walked and acted as if he was a Jamaican which was literally hilarious and embarrassing for any daughter. She then had a more substantial role when she played the role of Ava in 'EastEnders' (2011) for 3 episodes. Further appearances followed in 'Switch' (2012), 'Some Girls' (2012) and 'Death in Paradise' (2014) before she was given the role of Cynthia, one of the main characters of Series 1 and 2 of 'Plebs' (2013-14). Cynthia was the naive bombshell searching for an actress career in olden day Rome with co-star Lydia Rose Bewley and starred alongside Tom Rosenthal, Karl Theobald and Ellie Taylor. The series follows three desperate young men from the suburbs as they try to get laid, hold down jobs and climb the social ladder in the big city.

In Plebs

Following her success in 'Plebs', Sophie again had a starring role in a TV drama series about a fictional British royal family in modern-day London, 'The Royals' (2015). Playing a recurring character on Season 1 in the role of Gemma Kensington, with Merritt Patterson as Ophelia, they battle it out, 'Mean Girls' style for the prince's heart.

as Gemma in 'The Royals'

In 2015 she appeared in her second film 'Freak of Nurture' as Kate and  then as Emma in 'Anti-Social' before, two years later, lending her voice to Frankie in 'Thomas and Friends', which also includes the voices of Hugh Bonneville, Sir John Hunt and Eddie Redmayne. Then in 2018 she played Louise in 'Tango One', a British crime drama about a drug baron with undercover agents on his trail protecting both his criminal empire and the life of his daughter. More recent appearances saw her in the TV series, 'Hapless' (2020), 'C.B. Strike' (2020) and 'Father Brown' (2022).
