Pool Of Sound - Fiona Lennon

Fiona Lennon is a singer and songwriter from Liverpool, influenced by many different artists such as 'Fleetwood Mac', 'The Beatles', Alicia Keys and Adele. She says, "I have always sung since I was little and I went to music university about four years ago (2019), because I loved singing. That’s where I picked up and learned the guitar and started writing songs." After Fiona completed studying at Liverpool Media Academy she planned to continue writing songs and releasing music. Uploading covers helped her online presence because she liked doing songs everyone knows, but putting her own take on them, thinking that people would like that. She released her debut single, upbeat love song, 'A Little Longer' in March 2021, receiving good reviews and being named track of the week on BBC Introducing Merseyside. Her captivating debut was packed full of rich vocals and scouse charm. The slight Country edge sets the single apart from the city's host of talented female Indie soloists and gives the track an instant warming quality. Yet, it is her voice that dominates the interest in this track. Her vocals constantly dance between soft, haunting lines and bursts of energy that are both dreamy and powerful, bringing a slight touch of ferocity to an otherwise blissful tune. Since then, her second single 'You Really Got A Hold On Me' was released in May 2021 and is an acoustic ballad and a song that showcases a wonderful heartfelt vocal performance. The lyrics of the song, discuss love and loss and how a person can struggle to move on when a relationship is over. Both releases have been a regular feature on BBC Introducing with Fiona's musical style containing elements of folk, pop, rock and soul.

Described by many as Liverpool’s 'Mazzy Star', Fiona is now making huge strides in the Mersey Delta, supporting acts such as Jamie Webster, 'The Zutons', and Brooke Combe, and has impressed audiences across the country. She also made her festival debut last year, playing the This Feeling stage at the Isle of Wight. She has also gained over 10,000 streams with her two previous singles, 'You’ve Really Got A Hold On Me' and 'A Little Longer' as she aims to incorporate elements of Folk, Rock, Pop and Soul in her songs and her sound. Over the last year, her popularity has grown immensely and she is fast becoming a seasoned live act in Liverpool having recently performed at LIMF, Sound City and with performances scheduled at Widnes Beats and Arts Club Loft supporting 'The Merchants' in September.

Her single 'Stay High', has been described by Fiona as a "relationship breakdown but trying to end things on good terms, something everyone can relate to”. The song really takes you on a journey, and the soaring vocals really stand out and instantly make you a fan. This was followed by 'Coming of Age', a nostalgia tinged, guitar riff infused sonic treat. Her ethereal vocals soar on this track, there is an angelic quality to her voice as well as a sense of vulnerability to her tone. The simple arrangement of the track with charged lead guitars, pounding drums and a strong bassline really allows Lennon’s voice to take centre stage, with all of these elements blending together to create something really special. The track was produced at Garage Studios and according to Fiona, when she wrote the song, she had "just turned 25 and felt many emotions, it’s not easy as we get older, but the bad experiences make you appreciate the good so much more, this song is for my mum, my family, and anyone who can relate, hope you love it." Indie infused and energetic with sparkling lead guitar, 'Coming of Age' juxtaposes a bright and upbeat melody with thought provoking lyrics, dealing with the worries and woes that come with getting older and growing up. Through this single, Lennon lets her listeners in a little more, offering her deepest feelings and showing once again why she is a true songwriting talent. After selling out her Liverpool headline show, supporting Jamie Webster, and plays from BBC Intro Merseyside, already there are 'sold Out' gigs for 2024 at Kazimier Stockroom on the 1st of March 2024 and Birkenhead Yard on the 10th of August.
