Pool Of Sound - Shipwrecker

With Adam, Joe and Matt coming from the Wirral and Eve from the Isle of Wight, the emerging rock quartet 'Shipwrecker' started life around 2017 as an occasional side project scattered around the UK before it became the Merseyside flagship project it is now. The band originally started life as a one-off recording session, as Joe put together a group of musicians that he knew would be a good fit. Eve and Adam and Jo had been playing together informally for years and had never met Matt before he came into the studio to record the vocals. So the band officially formed when Matt came on board for the 2 day recording session to make the 'Elevator Sessions' EP and they didn’t get together properly again until 2019. Their line-up is composed of husband-and-wife duo Jo on guitar and Eve Barnes on drums, who express super hooky guitar lines and thunderous drums, Adam Hillhouse on bass guitar, handling the low-end adding strong groove and vibe, and Matt Vaggers, their absolute powerhouse vocalist. It was Jo who came up with 'Shipwrecker' after the Wirral coastline where there were famous smugglers who used fake signal fires to wreck ships against the rocks. Eve says she was always listening to her parents' record collection as a child and tapping along even though it was mainly all classical stuff like 'The Planets' or the 'War of the Worlds' soundtrack! They eventually bought her a drum kit for Christmas, but she was so small she couldn't even reach the pedals, so she then had drum lessons which introduced her to a whole world of new music, like jazz and 60's rock and never looked back as she then joined her first band.

They are on a course to take their own brand of groove-tinged classic rock to the masses and are set to break with their hugely alluring debut album, 'Different Beast' released in August 2023. Guitarist, Jo Barnes remarks about the record: "In a world full of cynicism, doom, and gloom, we set out to make a record that really represented the fun and joy we have playing together. Full of hooks, melody, and energy, ‘Different Beast’ is a rock album with a pop heart, written for 'that one perfect listener'." They have also released their engrossing new single and video, 'Sleep Tonight'. With a deep mutual love for hard rock, they despatch riff-driven cuts that are saturated with warmth, vigor, and power, all rounded off with utterly captivating vocal hooks that ignite favorable comparisons ranging from classic rock heavyweights such as 'Queen', 'Led Zeppelin', and 'Free', through to the likes of 'Rage Against The Machine', 'Foo Fighters', and 'Reef'.

This Liverpool based high-flying four-piece is a truly compelling live act and the band has the rare accolade of having sold out every show they have played so far. The build is real and growing fast as they emerge with a boatload of exciting new material. Their recent single, 'Voice In My Head', was playlisted by Planet Rock’s New Rock Show, and the track also racked up strong support from Total Rock Radio and ERB Radio. They celebrated the release of their new single and music video, 'Voice In My Head', with a sold-out headline show at the Kazimier Stockroom in The East Village neighbourhood of Liverpool City Centre in April 2023. This was the band’s first live show since their legendary one-off sold-out debut in 2019 and now with a full length album in the bag, and 2 singles, 'Pretty Face' and 'Voice In My Head', showing off their songwriting abilities, there are big things on the horizon for the Liverpool-based 4 piece.
