With over 2,500 listed buildings in our city, the oldest known buildings in Liverpool are The Bluecoat built in 1717, Liverpool Town Hall built in 1754 but in third place is the lesser well known 62 Mount Pleasant.
62 Mount Pleasant was originally built for merchant William Rice in
1767. This 2 storey brick house with stone dressings and slate roof, has 5
bays with sashed window with wedge lintels and triple
keystones, and those to the 1st floor with glazing bars. It has a central
round-headed entrance with open pediment on consoles.
Cornice. Brick and stacks. Not only is it one of the oldest Liverpool buildings in the
street but, as one of the oldest properties in the city, it offers
exquisite Georgian architecture.
Number 64 next door is also listed and was formally the Registry Office where John Lennon married his first wife Cynthia in 1962.
62 Mount Pleasant now serves as the Avesta Shisha Restaurant, Vooo Lounge.
