Five piece indie rock and punk band 'The Chicken Man and the Bad Eggs' took their hometown and the North West by storm in their first year. Formed in 2019 they were a new wave punk rock quintet consisting of lead singer Ryan Morris 24, lead guitarist Luke Hankinson, 21, rhythm guitarist Tasha Clough, 24, bassist Liam Shrives 24, and drummer Nathan McLiesh. Nathan said at the time, " I’m a new member of the band but I’ve been friends with them for years. They are St Helens born and bred and are looking to deliver enthralling new music which backs it up their obscure name. With regular plays on Dave Monks' and Clint Boon's radio shows, and playing venues all over the region, this St Helens, 5 piece band are a hurricane of punk rock energy. They describe their sound as definitely punk, but with lots of influences – grunge, rock. Ryan says, "Yeah I think it’s safe to call us a punk band, a new style, indie punk band. We've got the energy of the Sex Pistols but the refinery of the modern day. Polished punk… I think Chicken Man and the Bad Eggs just made a new genre."
Boasting 'tongue in cheek' lyricism, with guitar tones from across all generations set with a modernised twist, their sound mimics 'The Hives', 'Primal Scream' and 'Joy Division' to name but a few. As well as gigging across the North West, the band recently got through to the quarter finals of 'Last Fish in The Tank' Battle of the Bands competition, which started with 30 bands. They have also had success with their with debut single 'Peter Piper' having been released on all major digital platforms and receiving a number of radio plays by David Monks from BBC Introducing Merseyside.
Interviewed by local newspaper St Helens Star in February 2020, Luke from Dentons Green, who also works as a carer, said: "Our name came from the drummer Nathan as he was known as 'The Chicken Man' because he works at Nando's, but the name stuck and now we are 'The Chicken Man and the Bad Eggs' or we go by 'CMATBE'. We've had a good year, we was lucky enough to get the headline slot in Bar 44 on Westfield Street music festival as well as a festival slot at Stonehenge called Summer of Solstice, the Night and Day Café in Manchester a couple of times where many of the greats have come through and Clock Stock and other gigs in St Helens, Warrington and Liverpool. We are just starting really, but we've made a good start and are really proud of coming from a working class town like St Helens. It’s influenced our songs definitely, we sing about what life is like in a town like ours, the struggles but also how the community is. It’s about attitude and what we are feeling, it’s real. Not just romance and covers, we do none of that." Their second single SOS - Same Old S**t is due to be released next month. Luke added: "This is the most St Helens song ever, it’s about life here, the good and the bad. We hope you like it."

At Lions Den in Manchester in May 2022 |
Before their appearance at Lions Den in May 2022, they headlined WAM Warrington Music show at FC2, Warrington on the 25th of March 2022. New Sound Generation had this to say, "The performance, charisma, and pure showmanship this band brings is like nothing else. As a front man Ryan really must be seen to be believed, he's like a mixture of the Tasmanian devil and a wild circus ringmaster. Not still for a second, he's running around the stage, bouncing off monitors, dancing wildly, ripping his jacket and shirt off, one leg up on the barrier, belting out those vocals. It’s typically wild, wired, punk rock sound, it's crazed but it’s perfectly executed and well rehearsed."

"Each time I see this band I think “wow, can’t get better
than that”, then the next time they bring even more! The experience you
get with this band on stage just can’t be put into words. Go see for
yourselves. It’s addictive. Brilliant and full set, excellent, witty,
original, go-getting songs with a commercial radio sound."
