Rebecca Ferguson was born in Mill Road Hospital, Liverpool on the 21st of July 1986. She came to prominence in 2010 when she became the runner-up in the TV show, The X Factor, and subsequently signed a joint record deal with UK based Syco Music and Epic Record before later signing to the US Columbia Records.
Her debut single, 'Nothing's Real But Love', released in November 2011, written by herself with with mega song writer Eg White, enjoyed commercial success throughout much of Europe and Oceania, entering the UK singles chart at No.10. A debut album, 'Heaven', followed the next month, again co-written by herself, and received commercial and critical success. The
album sold 128k in its first week and peaked at No.3 in the UK Official
Charts, making her the fastest-selling debut solo artist of the
decade between the years of 2007 – 2017. It was
certified two times Platinum in the UK and Platinum in Ireland.In May 2012, Rebecca made her American television debut when she sang, "Nothing's Real but Love", on The Today Show and in October 2012 she stated she would be embarking on a US tour in January 2013 and that she had already begun writing new material for her second album.
A deluxe version of her first album included the single 'Backtrack' which entered the charts in October 2012 at No.15, giving Rebecca her second Top 20 hit.
On the 22nd of August 2013 she revealed on Facebook that her new album would be called 'Freedom' and would be released in December 2013, putting up pre-order links to the album. It met with positive reviews from
critics and achieved commercial success in the UK where it charted at No.6
and has since been certified Gold by the BPI. The album's lead single 'I Hope' peaked at No.15 in the UK.
In 2012, she was nominated for two MOBO Awards and also one MTV Europe Music Award.
In 2015 Rebecca released her third studio album 'Lady Sings The Blues' covering a number of jazz classics made famous by Billie Holiday. The lead single 'Get Happy' was added to BBC Radio 2's playlist and the album charted at No.7, becoming her third consecutive Top Ten charted album in the UK charts.
The following year she released her studio album 'Superwoman' which became her fourth consecutive Top Ten album when it charted at No.7 in the UK charts. Rebecca then toured from the 23rd of October to the 15th of November across the UK. Her last sold out tour was 'The Revolution Tour' in 2018.
She revealed that she had begun recording her next album with 'Chic' superstar Nile Rodgers as Executive Producer and had reunited with mega song writer Eg White to write the songs for this record. It was also announced that there would be a very special run of UK dates for 2019/2020 with Rebecca visiting some of the UK’s biggest cities performing live in concert all her greatest hits and songs from her forthcoming album.
Over the years this shy, working class girl from Liverpool has established herself as a accomplished performer and authentic musical force, producing some of the most passionate, beautifully written and delivered songs of our generation.
Rebecca cites Aretha Franklin, Amy Winehouse, Christina Aguilera and 'Kings of Leon' as being amongst her influences.
