Heroes of Their Time

Aston Villa
Who can forget Tony Morley's Goal of the Season against Everton (1980-81). He was a shining light in the most glorious time in Villa's history with League and European success.A wayward genius, who could have been an England 'great', but for his decline after not being picked to play in a game at the 1982 World Cup.

Man Utd
Gordon Hill was a Tommy Docherty 'bargain buy' from Millwall and, although he was at Man Utd for only 3 seasons, he formed an exceptional wing pairing with Steve Coppell. Pele spoke publicly of his admiration for Hill's dribbling and shooting skills in the young attacking team that propelled Utd back to the top level.

Liverpool
Geoff Strong was possibly one of the first and best utility players for the club and it is forgotten how impressive a goal scorer he previously was with Arsenal (69 in 125 games). As 12th man he played in almost every outfield position and excelled in them all and scored the goal that took Liverpool to their first European final.

Man City
Neil Young was one of the most talented and underrated players not to play for England. Bell, Lee and Summerbee get the plaudits but Young, with his goals and 'left foot', was as influential as any in the best City side in the history of the club. A great servant for the club over the 11 years he was there.
