Liverpool Pub Crawl - The Liverpool

The Liverpool at 14 James Street was originally a hotel before called 'Dodds Hotel', Due to being one of the buildings to be bombed in the 1941 blitz, it was rebuilt in 1960 and the pub opened below the new Mona Hotel and was named 'The Mona Castle'. The pub has been a recognised landmark part of our city's beautiful history and as the Mona it was filled with sailors, and visitors from HMS Liverpool.

In 1980 in conjunction with the launching of the HMS Liverpool, it was renamed 'The Liverpool.'  The Liverpool pub reopened in 2020 after undergoing a £25,000 makeover and has enjoyed the same homely and familiar family feel since 1993. Back then it was taken over by Val Smith, and her late, much-missed husband, Peter Smith, who died in 2007. Val said, "We were asked by Tetley – it’s now run by Ei Group – if we would take on The Liverpool in 1993. It wasn’t doing so well at that time – cab drivers called it The Dead House, but we helped resurrect it."

In 2023 the pub's current lease came to an end and Stonegate, which owns and runs hundreds of pubs across the country, stated that they would not be renewing the current team's lease, so the much loved premises would be bidding farewell to James Street. Thankfully new owners were found and Cook heritage pubs have now put the pub under new management since April 2023. Vegetarian friendly, it offers all you should expect from a traditional pub - home cooked food, local entertainment and a safe & warm environment for all generations.
