Andrew Gower was born on the 8th of November 1989 in Aintree, Liverpool attending Davenhill Primary School in Aintree and Great Sankey High School in Warrington, Cheshire. He has been acting since his school years, joining a drama group in year Nine while studying for his A-Levels and appeared in school plays and musical productions. He enrolled in Barrow Hall College, Great Sankey High School's sixth form college in 2007 and then joined a local amateur drama group. In 2010 he graduated from the Oxford School of Drama, winning the prestigious Spotlight Prize for Best Actor in July of that year.
In March 2011 he made his debut in British television on the ITV's medical drama 'Monroe' (2011-12) in the role of Dr Andrew Mullery, a heart surgeon in training. He researched the role by watching two heart bypass surgeries while standing next to actual surgeons. Appearing in both series, reprising his role as the newly promoted General Registrar, under Head of Clinical Services Alistair Gillespie in the second series. That same year he appeared in the television broadcast of the musical 'Frankenstein's Wedding...Live in Leeds' a modern adaptation of Mary Shelley's gothic novel, broadcast live with an audience of 12,000 on BBC Three. As vampire solicitor Nick Cutler, he joined the cast of BBC Three's 'Being Human' (2012) in Series 4 of the hit series and was the recipient of critical praise for his work. The same year he had a guest role in Series 4 of the science-fiction comedy series 'Misfits' (2012) whilst also playing Seiffert in the play 'The Conquest of the South Pole' at the Arcola Theatre. Returning to TV he appeared as Sherlock Holmes in Series 6 of 'Murdoch Mysteries' (2013), and after a cameo role in 'The Borgias' (2013) he appeared as Lord Strange in several episodes of the BBC mini series 'The White Queen' (2013). The following year saw him as Jimmy the Avid Editor in 'Rosewater' (2014), then as Gilbert Hankin in the BBC drama 'The Village' (2014), and as Nicholas Myers in the ITV crime drama 'Endeavour' (2014).

More work followed as he appeared in 'A.D. The Bible Continues' (2015), playing Mark, an ambitious young banker, then in the Emmy award winning three-part BBC series 'Capital' (2015) and the TV mini series 'Black Work' (2015). Andrew’s stage credits include playing Charlie in 'Terror Tales' (2010) at the Hampstead Theatre, Seiffert in 'Conquest of the South Pole' (2012) at the Arcola Theatre (touring to the Rose Theatre in Kingston) and making his West End debut as Winston Smith in the theatrical adaptation of George Orwell's '1984' (2016). He is probably best known as 'Bonnie Prince' Charles Edward Stuart in Series 2 and 3 of the historical dramatic series 'Outlander' (2016-22) and in Series 4 of the award-winning Netflix drama 'Black Mirror' (2017). Following TV work in 'Midsomer Murders' (2018), Poldark' (2019) and 'Miss Scarlet and The Duke' (2020), where he played Rupert Parker, the homosexual friend of titular character Eliza Scarlet. The same year he finished his first short film 'Humpty Fu*king Dumpty' (2020), as an executive producer, playing Tommy Quickly the Merseybeat musician. He reprised his role of Ezra Spurnrose in Season 2 of the 'fantasy-noir' series 'Carnival Row' (2019-23) before audiences saw him as a series regular in the highly anticipated ITV adaption of Bernard Cornwell's 'The Winter King' (2023), playing Sansum the Priest. As well as appearing in 'Van der Valk' (2024) and 'Sherwood' (2024), most recently Andrew has wrapped filming the detective drama 'Ellis' (2024) playing DS Chet Harper, the right-hand man to Sharon D, Clarke's titular character DCI Ellis.
