A History Of Liverpool Thespians - Zak Lee


Zack Lee Jowono was born in Liverpool on the 15th of August 1984 to a British mother and an Indonesian father with Chinese descent and began his career as a model before appearing in soap operas in the mid 2000s. It was in movies though that he made his name and his memorable role in the 2005 action movie 'Bad Wolves', as the leader of a bloodthirsty gang, won him favorable reviews. He next appeared as Jared Lester in the movie 'Drown Boy, Drown' (2008) before earning a role in 'The Raid 2: Berandal' which premiered at Sundance Film Festival in 2014, and was released in Indonesia and United States in the same year.


After appearances in 'Wanita Berdarah' (2014) and 'Midnight Show' (2015), he starred in 'Headshot' (2016), which premiered at the Midnight Madness Toronto International Film Festival in 2016. Zack is possibly best known for his role as as White Boy Bobby Bule, a current drug addict and another former gang member in 'The Night Comes For Us' which premiered in Fantastic Fest 2018 and became the first Netflix Original Feature from Indonesia. 

Later in 2018, he starred in 'Buffalo Boys' which became Singapore’s official entry for the 91st Academy Awards for 'Best Foreign Language Film'. As well as 'Jaga Pocong' (2018), 'Gundala' (2019) and 'EXILED: The Chosen Ones' (2022), he also starred in the HBO Asia Original Series. 'Grisse' (2018), an action historical drama television miniseries developed for HBO Asia by Mike Wiluan.

Besides acting, Lee is also passionate about food and cooking. He and his family are also food entrepreneurs and he also owns a noodle shop called Bakmi Omlee.
