Samantha 'Sam' Grey was born on the 19th of March 1984 in Liverpool. Brought up near Warrington she began a career in modelling at the age of 15 shooting campaigns for Burberry, Emporiana, Vidal Sassoon, Toni and Guy, Pepe Jeans, Virgin Mobiles, Ben Sherman, Baby G and Mulberry as well as in fashion magazines such as Vogue, Elle, New Woman and Tatler. Although acting was always an aspiration of hers, as a child she mostly remembers wanting to be a taxi driver! She began her acting career in the short film 'Flood' (2003), playing a title role as Polly who lives in a remote village in the country with her dad, brother and sister. Living without their mother, who has been gone for almost ten years, Polly struggles to get out of the shadow of her mother.
Next was a role as Jessica Hibbs in 4 episodes of 'Dream Team' (2006), following the ups and down of fictional English Premiership club 'Harchester United' known more commonly as 'The Dragons'. An episode of 'Doctors' (2012) and the short film 'Tuyen' (2015) were interspersed with Sam's most notable role as Health Care Assistant Alice Chantrey in 159 episodes of 'Casualty' (2006-2016).
Having undergone a number of auditions she first appeared as Alice on the first of April 2006 in the episode 'Going Under'. Having been transferred to the ED as a receptionist when she lost her job at North Wyvern Trust, she held the position for just over a year before moving on to become a health care assistant in the department until leaving the hospital in May 2010. During her time in the department, she built relationships with many of the staff. In late 2008, she began dating paramedic Curtis Cooper, but the following year, just as they were about to get married, he died whilst saving her from Callum Malone. This had a huge impact on both her personal life and career, and it was partially responsible for her departure the following year.
On the 16th of August 2016 it was announced that Sam would reprise her role as Alice in the 30th anniversary episode,'Too Old for This Shift'. In August 2016, Alice recorded a video message for Charlie to congratulate him on his 30th anniversary. She thanked him for his support and friendship over the years, and said that he made her the nurse she was today.
However, since she turned her back on the show she has quit the fame game for good and landed herself a new full-time job running a market research facility as well as her own side hustle setting up her own online jewellery business 'Sesame Gems' insisting she is loving life more than ever. Sam said: "Essentially it’s handmade gemstone jewellery. I started collecting crystals nearly 30 years so my home is filled with them. Just handling the crystal beads I felt my hands on fire. Reiki is a universal energy that people are able to channel for healing. I started reiki when I was 15 and finished my Master level just over 10 years ago."
