Pool Of Sound - Superlate

Superlate is one of Liverpool’s most exciting emerging names in groove-led dance pop. With a knack for crafting infectious, feel-good tunes that straddle the line between bedroom producer and main-stage performer, his music radiates joy, energy, and emotional honesty. It was at uni that he and his friend Euan Blackman were in his room, trying to replicate the drums from a BENEE song called 'Supalonely'. Those drums ended up becoming the foundation for his first single 'Diamonds'. That song felt so good that it was the first time he says he really felt like he'd found his style. At the same time, his love for electronic music was growing alongside making music, and he found himself being drawn to it more and more.

From there, it was a natural process of blending his earlier summery, instrumental sound with this new love for groove. That fusion has now become his sonic DNA. Having worked with artists like Immi Dash and Jazmine Johnson he says collaboration opens doors he'd never be able to open on his own. "Both of those artists have such incredible flair in their writing and singing, and they’ve helped me create records I’m genuinely proud of. One unexpected positive from the pandemic was how remote collaboration became second nature. I’ve had countless Zoom writing sessions with people across the globe, many of whom I might never meet in person but still play a big part in shaping my music." Obsessed with crafting beats in his bedroom, the vision was crystalised during a life-changing set by dance legends 'Faithless' at Boardmasters Festival. The soon-to-be core memory ignited his passion for the euphoric energy of the sundowner slot, the moment just before the night explodes into rhythm. Having earlier this year dropped the radiant single 'Better Than You', featuring Liverpudlian singer Jazmine Johnson, the Liverpool-based producer returned with a vibrant new single, 'Solo Raver' via Ripe Records. This single delivers an intoxicating fusion of house and modern pop and he says," 'Solo Raver' is my ode to nightfall dancefloors. It hits you in the belly right away, blending the hard bounce of 'Daft Punk' with the dreamy spaciness of 'Tame Impala'. It’s the kinda street swagger inducing tune that people will enjoy in these hot months and I love it to bits." The single is a shimmering showcase of his signature sound. atmospheric guitars and also features the soulful vocals of Kate Bond.

When BBC Radio 1’s Big Weekend announced its return to the North West for 2025, excitement across the Liverpool scene was electric. But beyond the headliners, it was the BBC Introducing stage that continued to tell the real story of where UK music is going this year and next, it was Liverpool’s own that were making the loudest noise. He said, "Radio 1's Big Weekend has always felt like the mothership of pop music. Anything big musically in the UK seems to orbit around it. So seeing my name on that lineup was really special. There aren’t any other electronic or producer artists from Liverpool, or even the whole country, playing the BBC Introducing stage this year. So I’m absolutely buzzing to get up there and show the crowd what I can do." At his BBC Introducing set at Radio 1’s Big Weekend at Sefton Park, Superlate, through collaborative projects like 'Be Somebody' (with Immi Dash), continued to elevate Liverpool’s soul and R&B scene in subtle but significant ways.
