Liverpool band 'Mexican Dogs' formed in the summer of 2021 consist of ex-'Bribes' Gaz Wilcox on lead vocals, Carl Rooney on drums and Sonny Winder-Rodgers on bass / vocals. Gaz and Carl had been friends for a long time with both being in different bands, but finally got into a rehearsal studio together. The idea was to just play and nothing else, and just play for the love of music and to hang out. This carried on for a few months as a 2 piece and quite quickly they were moulding their sound without realising it. When they both wrote the single 'Run, Run, Run' they had one of them moments of 'WTF, we are onto something here!!!' Quickly realising that the 2 piece set up was limiting as to how they could scope more songs, they decided to change rehearsal studios to LSD studios in Liverpool which was where bass player Sonny, who was involved with the place and who's dad is the guitar tech for one Noel Gallagher, came in the room and was saying how much he dug the sound and that he played bass. They instantly invited him down to the next rehearsal and it just worked.
After only six months after their formation they were signing an album deal with Fretsore Records, with the initial deal to record an EP, with the debut self-titled EP produced and recorded by Andy Fernihough at Liverpool's 3rd Planet Studios. Released on the 24th of November 2021 it consisted of 1. 'She Cries Blues' 2. 'When It's Gone' 3. 'You and I' and 4. 'Run, Run, Run', getting airplay from BBC 6 Music, Radio X, Absolute etc.
The trio are an abundance of modern day Bluesy, Rock style and tap into the seminal sounds of 'T-Rex' or 'Led Zeppelin' and re-route them via the high octane thrills of modern day titans like 'The Black Keys' or 'Royal Blood', balancing rock classic and contemporary on an exhilarating knife-edge. They are quickly establishing themselves as one of Liverpool and the UK’s imminent rising forces. Mexican Dogs continue to build upon their burgeoning reputation with the release of the stellar single 'Hold On'. They are a band with big ambitions and an even bigger sound. They aim to grab your attention full on ahead of their upcoming debut album. Produced by Steve Dinwoodie, it takes on a sonic swagger with electrifying energy of big guitars, soaring vocals, huge drums & thunderous bass. 'Hold On' is a superbly crafted rock radio-friendly track & immediately superglues itself to your Most Played List on Continuous Repeat! The power trio shattered expectations with their debut EP with lead singles 'Run, Run Run' and 'You And I' seeing support from 6 Music, Planet Rock, Radio X, and Absolute, with key play-listing on Apple Music’s New In Rock UK and YouTube Music’s New Rock.
