'Loathe', sometimes stylized as 'LOATHE', is a heavy metal band formed in Liverpool in 2014. They had their origin in the Liverpool melodic 'Our Imbalance' which Erik Bickerstaffe was a founding member of. Eventually, Kadeem France, the drummer for 'Escapists UK', replaced 'Our Imbalance's' founding vocalist Harry Rule. Kadeem, from Toxteth, was 19 years old when he and guitarist Erik Bickerstaffe, from St Helens, pieced 'Loathe' together and by 2014 , the band also included drummer Sean Radcliffe. It was around this time the band morphed into 'Loathe' with the recruitment of guitarist Connor Sweeney and bassist Shayne Smith. However in 2021 they announced the departure of guitarist Connor, posting a short statement on their social media channels. " Loathe regretfully announce the departure of Connor Sweeney. We would like to thank Connor for his contributions and commitment to Loathe over the years and wish him the best in his future endeavours." The band now consist of lead vocalist Kadeem France, guitarist and second vocalist Erik Bickerstaffe, bassist Feisal El-Khazragi and drummer Sean Radcliffe, and cite their influences in the major acts such as 'Slipknot', 'Deftones', and 'Korn'.
They are signed to SharpTone Records and have released two EPs and three studio albums. 'Prepare Consume Proceed' was released in 2015 and was re-issued in 2016 through SharpTone Records as the label's first release. From there, the band’s journey gathered momentum rapidly as they toured extensively in the UK with 'Carcer City' and performed at high profile festivals such as Tech-Fest and Ozzfest Meets Knotfest. Their touring schedule intensified in 2017 after the release of debut album, 'The Cold Sun', and they headlined a UK tour, as well as supporting 'Bury Tomorrow' later that year. Then followed a split EP recorded with label-mate 'Holding Absence' titled 'This Is As One' in 2018. They became fast learners on the live circuit so much so that in 2018 Matt Mills from WhatCulture hailed them as metal’s greatest live performers since 'Slipknot'. They released their second studio album 'I Let It In And It Took Everything' on the 7th of February 2020. Their third album, 'The Things They Believe', was released on 7th of February 2021 as an extension of their previous album, and was made up entirely of ambient tracks.. The band's works are often categorised within the metalcore genre with experimental elements. 'Loathe' have been nominated for Heavy Metal Awards best UK breakthrough band, and Metal Hammer Golden Gods Awards best new band in 2018. In a 2020 poll by Revolver magazine, they were voted the third most likely contemporary band to break through into the mainstream. The band describes themselves as a conceptual band, as throughout all of their album releases they have been telling stories of fiction.

Nominated in November 2022 |
Live, the band express their songs with disarming intensity. Lots of smoke, bright and eye-hurting white lights. They're not only the most exhilarating young band in Britain, they're doing more than most to drag metal into a future it doesn't know it needs to be in. In a scene that can get wrapped up in its own comfort zone, 'Loathe' are agents of change. The band's music makes use of elements of metalcore and nu metal. while also incorporating more experimental aspects from genres like shoegaze, progressive metal and industrial music. Having been nominated for Heavy Metal Awards best UK breakthrough band and Metal Hammer Golden Gods Awards best new band in 2018, in November 2022 they were nominated for 'Best Alternative Music Act' at the Mobo Awards.
