'Samya' is a Liverpool-based musician, whose voice encapsulates the calm sway of a spring day. She is also a Music Tutor/Mentor at the youth music project Capeesh, where she participates in charity performances. Having studied sound technology at LIPA for 2 years this led her to forming her own funk fusion band as well as pursuing a solo career as a singer-songwriter musician. Samya plays piano, guitar, bass and sings - so whatever the young people want to learn, she does her very best in supporting them! She also completed the ‘Introduction To Youth Work’ Certificate, which she studied for and achieved through Capeesh, in Harthill Youth Centre. Being involved with Capeesh (Liverpool) CIC ever since she moved to South Liverpool, not only has it provided her with so many opportunities in music, but it has allowed her to work on her teaching skills and motivate children to pursue an interest in music/the arts. With a range of singles including a few soft French pieces; The song 'L’amour' is an airy acoustic-led tune holding great intimacy. Already with an arsenal of songs out, Samya is certainly going to unveil some sensational work this year.
Like most she started at a young age, firstly with piano which she has been playing for 11 years. Then she discovered she had a voice, quite a 'ghostly' one which she thought she could use to her advantage. To push herself, she taught herself guitar and this was about the time songwriting became a big part of her life. She has quite an old folk/jazz style and is a very nervous performer, but has tried to see that as part of her image and it’s only recently she has started to gig. Her main venue is 81 Renshaw Street but she'd like to play Zanzibar and the Brink again. Having her own writing process, once she thinks it is ready, she’ll use Logic to mix and then SoundCloud to release. Her first song was made on her friend’s laptop and she also used college because of their great facilities.

By September 2020 she had left her solo stuff temporarily so she could focus on her
duo. She writes and sings and plays guitar in it and feels it’s been the most beneficial
music orientated thing she's done so far. Samya explains, "It’s helped me with writing
and performance. I get to use a bit of my tech knowledge too. We’ve
released ‘Off Kilter’ a little while ago and are now working on a new
song called ‘This Land’. Our gig got postponed due to Corona, but we
will be advertising the new dates when we get them. I’ve noticed many female artists but not that many girl groups and
definitely not many female technicians. I study technology to hopefully
add to a male orientated job role and to be self-produced. I was nervous
doing it at first, I didn’t want to fail, but I love it and I can’t
wait to work with other artists as well as myself."

Samya's art and musical landscape draws upon her Algerian and French heritage, combined with a synthesis of modern politics, dream collage and poetic lucidity that results in a sound that evokes the dark romance of P.J. Harvey, the passion of Blue-era Joni and the cinematic-noir of Lana Del Ray. Her recent single 'Flower Bed' incorporates a swift bass that carries the song with its smooth jazz tone. In the summer of 2022 Samya was working on her debut album which she hoped will see its release at the end of the year. In April 2023 she released 'Sherpa', her latest offering.
