Pool Of Sound - Faded Gold

The emerging celestial synth artist 'Faded Gold' is Stefanie Chew, the latest Wirral wonder with magical music at her finger-tips. She started writing and recording music in 2011 and released an EP, 'Behind the Curtain' which people who heard it were in awe at it’s brilliant iridescence. With only a laptop and a desire to learn, in November 2012 she released 'Homelands'. Music blog Getintothis had this to say, "if the dude in charge of syncing festive montages at the BBC had his head screwed on he'd be setting his controls firmly on bagging a bit of Stephanie Chew aka Faded Gold. Her rich glacial textures are the perfect accompaniment to wintry seasonal televisual programming or sea lions ducking into icy water for wounded penguins in the race for survival. Or something. Anyways, 'Homelands' is the latest in a long line of corking electronic grooves." When Stephanie was a child, her mother made her learn the piano and each week she would be dragged kicking and screaming to piano lessons which she absolutely hated. Later in life, listening to music became her main interest and as her passion grew, she started sitting in front of the piano and putting melodies together. When she first starting writing music, she was very much influenced by artists such as 'M83' and 'Explosions In The Sky' and loved how she could replicate their orchestral sound without having to hire in a team of musicians. Since then her sound has evolved and whilst writing 'Tides' was listening to a lot of Julianna Barwick, Lydia Ainsworth and 'Hundred Waters'. NME magazine reviewed it in 2015 saying, "Tides is a choral re-imagining of electronic like East India Youth's shimmering compositions rendered more melancholic", whilst The Recommender said, "You know those really really great dreams you wish you could re-experience? Well, now you can".

It wasn't until she moved to Montreal in her twenties that she actually believed she was capable of composing and performing her own music. She used to go to house parties and watch artists like Grimes experiment with different forms of electronic sounds and realised that she wanted to try something similar. Unsure of what type of music she was going to make and with no instruments to make it with, she started researching and downloading various music production programmes. She uploaded her first ever composition 'The Departure' on the internet soon after and I never looked back. Combining glacial washes, rippling longing rhythms and an escapist romanticism it's undeniable that the backdrop of her hometown permeate through her music. Having dipped in and out of the Liverpool live scene she attracted buzz in the national print press and online blogs while drawing lofty comparisons to the likes of 'East India Youth' and 'Emeralds'. Described by the press as an electronic experimental performer, crafting her songs from her love of post rock and electronic music, the resulting output is an eclectic mix influenced by artists such as Tycho, 'Boards of Canada', and M83 to name a few.

On her Facebook page in April 2021 she said, "New releases have been quite a long time in the making, but I've finally made the decision to release 2 EPs in the coming months. The first, 'Teenage Dreams' will be a more ambient, instrumental EP released on Bandcamp day, May 7th.

In May 2021 she announced, "HELLO! My new release 'Teenage Dreams' is now online, just in time for Bandcamp Friday!"
