Holly Lovelady is a folk, electropop singer, balladeer and
songwriter from Liverpool and Kendal who splits her time now between
Liverpool and the Lake District. Born in Liverpool in 1999, she's also
an actress and has amassed millions of views of her content, been named
song of the year in 2019 and been published in top magazines like
Wonderland.
From a young age she always wanted to sing and
tell stories so it has always been in her. She says, "I started to write
songs and sing when I was 14, my mum bought me a £50 old piano and told
me to teach myself how to play… so I did and started to write and sing.
I have been a musical theatre actress since the age of 12 it’s always
been a dream of mine to be an actress! I’ve recently been filming a
1920s gothic horror film and last year I was in a new musical called
“This girl” about the Beatles and John Lennon's first wife. That’s
definitely a road I want to go down in film acting…. It intrigues me!
It’s so fulfilling being able to step into someone’s shoes and tell
their story." Her mother and father are not musical at all but her
grandad she says was an exceptional singer so he always inspired her.
Holly says, "All my music and creativity comes from my grandad who was
also a singer." Her music has been played by BBC Introducing and in 2017
her song ' How's My Hair' was named as one of the highlight tracks of
2017. In September of 2017 she did her first gig with her band at the
Magnet in Liverpool. On Thursday the 25th of April 2019 at the Music Room in
the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Liverpool she released her first album with a special album launch in
the Music Room. They published, "Mixing Folk and Pop with her haunting melodies and real
life lyrics that appeal to all generations, Holly Lovelady is an up and
coming artist to watch - her music is regularly featured on BBC Music
Introducing in Cumbria. The album launch will kick start her 2019 tour
of Ireland."
She originally recorded 'A Spaceman Came Traveling' when she was
16 and uploaded a video to her YouTube page. The original singer Chris
de Burgh sent her a tweet when she first covered his song, It read "Well done, a
lovely version!!" At the age of 21 and with her voice more mature,
Holly decided to re-record the track. The track features Holly’s
signature ethereal voice breathing new life into the Christmas classic,
backed by a simple soft, finger-picked acoustic guitar and a delicate
string section that frames the track beautifully, focusing on Holly
Lovelady’s emotive vocal performance.
In September 2021
the then 22-year-old, living in Kendal Cumbria, wrote and released
a song on YouTube called 'Steal the World' inspired by her grandmother
Maureen Lovelady who is living with vascular dementia and in memory of
her grandad Francis Lovelady. Holly supports vulnerable adults in the
community. She used to sing with her
late grandfather Francis, who passed away earlier this year aged 82 with
both Parkinson’s and Dementia. Holly said: “I wrote this song a few
years ago when I was with both my grandparents and that is why it now
feels so important to get it out there to raise awareness of and funds
for dementia. Both being inspired by my grandmother but also in memory
of my grandad. We know he would have wanted me to do this and would be
very proud of me.'Steal the World’ is about living each day the best you
can because you don’t know what tomorrow will bring. You steal the
world today, but then have to give it back tomorrow."
This was on her Facebook page in February 2023, 'Holly is back to release her next offering which is reimagining of the original ‘Year Of The Cat’ by Al Stewart first released in 1976. Enamoured by the beauty of the piano, references to 'Casa Blanca' and 'The Cat' referring to the 12th year in Vietnamese astrology, Holly rewrote the song, recreating the iconic piano sequence and adding her own verses and twist of her signature ghostly, spiritual mysticism to the instrumentation. By substituting the film references of the original with characters from Award Winning TV show 'Peaky Blinders' to make the track relevant to a modern audience. The song was recorded by Holly alongside Bob Mackenzie (Motor Museum), produced by Matt Taylor and mixed and mastered by Brian Sheil (Brytestar). This was played on BBC Radio Merseyside following her interview with Kevin Duala.
