Pool Of Sound - Paddy Clegg

Paddy Clegg is a singer songwriter from Huyton, Liverpool. From a very young age he has had a passion for music with his dad buying him his first guitar at the age of nine. He was a drummer in several bands before picking up a guitar in 2013 and beginning to write his own material, recording in his bedroom and later gigging in and around the Liverpool area. Before he had decided music was what I wanted to do as a career, he used to be a competitive swimmer and swam for local clubs Everton SA and Halton Swimming Club for many years, representing Liverpool in numerous of swimming competitions around the UK.

At the age of 16, he had started college at Liverpool Media Academy, gaining confidence to sing in front of people and large audiences. Nearly every day after college, he would go home and record covers in his bedroom and upload them straight onto SoundCloud. Then, at the beginning of 2014, he started writing and recording his own songs. With an ear for a hook, a disarming vocal and an artistic intelligence beyond his years, the 17 year old Huyton teenager displayed his talent on the rough-and-ready skiffle of his infectiously catchy debut single 'Back To The Start'. The track was received very positively, receiving regular airplay on radio stations across the north west of England, which he didn't expect, and from music journalists, radio presenters and industry professionals. Paddy quickly earned praise from the city’s music journalists and bloggers, which led to him signing with SWC Artist Management and Fly On The Wall Records. He then began to play live with his backing band as he and his management team felt he needed that extra push in sound to have a better impact on stage, enhancing his performance. He bunched together a group of talented lads who he had met when gigging with other bands and spotting them when playing solo gigs around the city. He then released 'Dancing Shoes' in September 2014 which was followed by a 4 a track EP, 'Head in the Clouds'.

In the space of a year he grew immeasurably, most notably on his 2015 follow up, 'Let’s Get By', which recalls those early Liam Gallagher vocal demos on 'Live Forever' twinned to a careering guitar shuffle. Paddy's sound has drawn comparisons to 'The La's', and Jake Bugg, yet he retains his own musical identity and is making a name for himself through his hugely accomplished musical compositions which belie his youth.

"The boy can sing, his melodies hit you where it hurts and his urgent sense of rhythm suggests lyrics and chords are written between tweets and snap chats. In other words, hes the sound of right now." - Alan O'Hare (Liverpool Echo Mersey Blogs)

"His songs are fresh and honest. They grab the attention of the listener and in one of his songs 'Have You Ever Wondered?', you have a song that screams out, take me home and play me till the neighbours politely suggest that you might have an addiction problem." - Ian D Hall (Sound & Vision).

Life At The Arcade

Paddy then joined up with an old school mate Paul Crilly in 2015 as frontman for a new band and so was formed Life At The Arcade' - http://www.thefootballvoice.com/2020/09/pool-of-sound-life-at-arcade.html
