Hailing from Huyton, Liverpool, 'The Glass Skies' is a four piece indie/pop band who have been making music since 2014, firstly under their previous name 'Skylights', but this clashed with another band of the same name from Yorkshire. The band consists of John Riley frontman on vocals and guitar, Sonny Price on drums, Lachlan Challoner on lead guitar and Ewan McClelland on bass. Their main influences are mostly 'Oasis', 'The 1975', 'Neck Deep' and 'Catfish and the Bottlemen'. They met Ewan when he was behind the bar at the Jacaranda and are, first and foremost, four mates who have a laugh and 'jam' together.
The lads said when they kicked it together, they just knew music was the way forward for them as they got along so well. 'The Glass Skies' have played hundreds of shows around the north of England, with the highlights being; Noel Gallagher’s 'High Flying Birds' after-show party in 2016, St Helens Christmas Light Switch, Anthony Walker Festival, Liverpool Pride and so many more.
They come with energy and big tunes and said ”we want to capture the imaginations of the country with our energetic songs with real lyrics about the turbulent lives of our singer and drummer, Sonny and John backed by one of the most talented guitarists around, Lachlan, along with our new bass player, Ewan! After spending the majority of lockdown writing new music, we have created a catalogue of our best work yet”. In February 2022 they released a new single, 'Lovesick' which has been described as the modern answer to the melancholic 80s. The band’s new single explore pop beats and epic guitar slides with a masterpiece bridge that captivates us at every moment that is classy, emotional and so magical. Unveiling glamourous sounds and rich musical textures that blends perfectly the powerful lyricism of the track.
They are now an established band who have recently signed to Big Condo Records, and are releasing their 2nd single 'Sirens' on the 11th June 2022 on Spotify and Apple Music plus three hundred other digital platforms. The single was launched at a party with Hollywood Eyes / Juvenal / The Sukis / Solar 25 at the Zanzibar, Liverpool.
Billy Hoi interviewed the guys on his Radio Merseyside show at the end of October 2022 and played their latest single, 'Holding On'. This was the first song the lads had recorded outside of Lachlan's bedroom. They were looking forward to their first tour.
They later posted on their Facebook page, " Last night was the most incredible show we have ever played in all the years we’ve been in this band. A sold out Shipping Forecast full of the most amazing, wacky, loving people all singing our songs back to us, it simply does not get any better than that.
We’re the luckiest 4 lads going, we want to thank everyone that made this tour possible, our manager Roy & our driver Phil from Big Condo Records who have helped us above and beyond this week, every single person who bought a ticket to any show, all the staff who worked the venues in Warrington, Leeds, Blackburn & Liverpool! All 12 of our support bands who were amazing every single one of you! Jess and Jord for coming to every single night of the tour, we genuinely could not function without you, the people that know, know.
This has been the best week of all our lives, 8 years in a band, 4 amazing shows, 4 best mates for life, 1 first ever tour, perfection
Holding On is out everywhere now."
John, Sonny, Ewan & Lachlan
TGS x
