Pool Of Sound - Veyu

The Wirral quintet 'Veyu' consist of Chris Beesley on vocals and guitar, Adam Bresnen on vocals and guitar, Ash Hopkins replacing James Tidd on bass, Tom McCabe on drums and Donovan Collins on synth and keyboards. They came together after Adam placed an ad in Lark Lane's Keith’s Wine Bar. Tom and Adam were already mates from school and it wasn't long before the current line-up formed. They are also the creatives behind Dale Street's Fallout Factory: their rehearsal location, gig venue and exhibition space. In 2014 the Guardian  featured them as their 'New Band of the Week' - " Veyu have their own Factory, actually – an arts space called the Fallout Factory that they managed to secure from the city council. There they rehearse, play gigs and host art events/installations. But this is art with a heart, they insist. Their intention is "to connect with people on an emotional level. Veyu strive to make music that people want to absorb, not just hear, that they can lose themselves in. We hope that the ideas behind our music strike a chord, evoke certain moods and feelings." They have made a good start with their debut double A-side single Running c/w The Everlasting. Strike a chord?

At the Shipping Forecast

Appearing at the Shipping Forecast in November 2014, music blog Getintothis said of them, " VEYU cemented their reputation as one of the best bands on the Liverpool circuit right now. Their performance was one of poise on the one hand and restless experimentation on the other. A relatively straightforward start saw the band hit the groove with a terrific mid-section full of syncopated drums, delicious vocal harmonies and understated melodic guitars."

In 2015, already signed to Baltic Records, and with a self-titled EP already under their belt, these lads were surely set for a momentous year. Already distinguished on the Liverpool indie circuit having featured as not only The Guardian’s band of the week but also Peter Guy's buzz band of the week, with a self-described aesthetic of 'cavernous, turbulent post rock music', their EP, headed up by the track ‘Running’ certainly evokes ambience and atmosphere that engages the listener on an emotional level. Waves of poetic vocals and sombre, climatic melodies provide the ideal soundtrack for a blustery, perhaps drizzly day of reflection. The bands penchant for visual art is palpable in the video for the final track off the EP 'In The Forest'. Over six minuets of distorted multi layered shots of the band in trippy hues of blue accompany found sound clips, etherial chimes and strong drum beats with lead singer Chris Beesley's brooding vocals weaved through.

In 2017 they were part of a cross-section of Liverpool’s music scene at a special gig at 24 Kitchen Street on the 20th of April. 'Strange Collective', 'Veyu', 'Farhood', 'The Shipbuilders' and Pixey were all helping Bido Lito! launch their brand new membership offer. They had recently released their magnificent Underbelly record, as they blended widescreen soundtrack atmospherics with Hacienda-indebted disco. On them amongst Liverpool artists and bands that have shaped ten years of Merseyside music - "Making their first big strokes in 2013, this initially four and now a five-piece alt-rock/pop group carried with it the elements of a particular minuscule era contained within the decade as their guitarist Adam Bresnan helped establish Dale street’s Fallout Factory where the band developed most of its sound. Further on, that developed sound became one of the early offerings of Baltic Records. After that, countless festival slots, nomination for GIT 2014 award, gorgeous records and voila! – the new local guitar group darlings have arrived serving as one of the firsts of the soon to be abundant guitar and synth layered dreamy psych-rock bands that draw from the same wells as 'Tame Impala' and the like. The band’s steady trajectory has taken them to festivals beyond Merseyside like Kendal Calling and the sound becoming heavier and intense with more gorgeous records. Having seen some strong sets by the band that are oft accompanied with stunning visuals, it's easy to claim that regardless of how far they go, you can trust 'VEYU' to daringly chase their creative dream". – Amaan Khan.

Over the past few years New Brighton has come alive with street art! Rockpoint Leisure's Victoria Quarter regeneration project has been commissioning some amazing work and the latest Gorillaz piece, based on the legendary album, Demon Days, by Damon Albarn’s alternative band, Gorillaz, comes courtesy of local street artist, Adam Bresnen, or ‘Brez’ as his tag says. The local artist behind the cool Gorillaz mural has also created many others for the project. Adam Bresnen is the man behind the ones on The Harbour pub and the Peggy Gadsby piece at the side of The New Brighton Hotel. A versatile experimental artist, Adam is one of the region’s finest talents and is also a member of successful band, Veyu. La Vida Liverpool have an office in the heart of the project and say it's been amazing to watch all the developments unfold. 'Local artist, Adam Bresnen, is an incredible talent and we look forward to some more of his work popping up here soon! '
