Five-piece band 'The Sway', have supported the likes of 'The Lathums', 'The Reyton's and Jamie Webster. Band members are Ryan McNee on vocals and guitar, Ciaran Smith on guitar and vocals, Harry Robertson on drums, Aidan McLean 0n keyboard and vocals and Sean Knibb on bass guitar. Their music is diverse, fed by the insights of the band's three singer songwriters. Melody is important and there is a nice blend of electric and acoustic guitars. Ryan says, "Well we were mates before music had anything to do with it to be honest, I’ve known Aidan since we were 3, as our dads were also mates. Cairan went to our primary school and we met Harry when we were about 11 or 12 and we then became mates with Sean through school as well – so ,we were all mates before anything. But me and Aidan have always had an interest in music. Aidan adds, " It was just a mutual love of music really, all 5 of us came together at the lads house in Anfield." Ciaran, Ryan and Harry started the band in college before Aidan and Sean got involved and they found their sound and started getting some gigs around town.
2019
was a massively successful one for the band, when they performed all
over the city at venues like O2 Academy, Sound Basement and Hangar and their
debut single, 'Step Right' was written and performed by Ryan McNee back in
October 2019. Having supported the likes of 'The Lathums',
'The Cheap Thrills' and Jamie Webster, they performed in front of a lively
sell-out crowd at the Arts Club in November 2020, one
week after the release of their second single 'Changing' which was met with tumultuous acclamation, making it on to BBC Introducing that Saturday night. They started their spot off with 'Step Right' and its catchy lyrics and charming melody had fans singing along from the beginning.
The
gig picked up momentum as they each shared lead singing
responsibilities on original songs called 'Forever Starts Now', 'Sunshine
Seeker' and 'So Long'. Having been performing all over the
city’s most popular venues over the past few years they performed at the Sound City festival at Baltic Triangle in May. Their single, 'Changing' showed the band’s diversity as
Ciaran Smith takes the lead singer this time around. The aim for the single was to create a 'clean and catchy' tune with 'good melodies throughout' and their unique Liverpool sound resonated with the audience and the crowd
was as loud as possible as they sang their newly released single.
The final unreleased songs, 'Beautiful Feeling' and
' Live It Large' showcase how multifaceted they are with a perfect mix of
acoustic and electric guitar riffs. Speaking about the
importance of mixing things up, they said, "We love to bounce ideas off
each other and give a variety of songs in our shows. There are three
songwriters in the band, so it makes sense to utiliise it and we sing
the songs we each bring to the table," Their unique Liverpool-based sound creates an electric atmosphere with every live performance they give.
Northern Chorus had this to say about their EP, 'Sunshine Seekers', "This four-track EP is exactly what it says on the tin. If you’re seeking a bit of light in these dark times, then the rising Liverpool band have delivered the goods. Includes tracks, 'Sunshine Seeker', 'Don’t You Wanna be (Happy)', 'Step Right' and 'Changing'. The EP is a real statement from a band destined for bigger things."
From the O2 Academy in 2021 to The Isle of Wight Festival in June 2022 and further multiple song releases, including a second EP, 'Days Lost or Happily Wasted', it looks like these 5 Liverpool lads could certainly go far.
