Pool Of Sound - Nutribe

One area that the Liverpool music scene has been slightly weak on is homegrown rap artists. Thankfully, in recent years the trio 'Nutribe' have broken the mold to deliver an alternative blend of off-key flows and traditional boom-bap hip-hop beats which successfully fill this void. Free-spirited improvisation is their way, with their music rooted in classic-sounding hip-hop production and MCing.

They took to the stage in October 2019 at the Arts Club for Liverpool's R'n'B and Hip Hop scene and Liverpool based culture blog Planet Slop had this to say, " We happened to bump into these guys at the new community Colours Festival in Toxteth and boy oh boy, we didn't realise what we were in for. It is just so refreshing to see a group that performs pure unadulterated Rap music. Everything from their lyrics, movement and choice of beats is quite reminiscent of 90's conscious hip hop era – you could hear elements of A Tribe called Quest, Nas with the swag and the movement of Busta Rhymes mixed with a bit of Beenie Man. It's no surprise they are getting a lot of love from the music industry, including Gilles Peterson. They are not only a reflection of Liverpool’s unique, raw and gritty music culture, but also natural born entertainers with a passion and energy so strong that they create a gripping stage presence. Their music paints a picture of their journeys, influences, strengths and struggles. Their crowning moment is their performance of recently released single, 'Sittin’ On Me Step', which was released on Gilles Peterson’s latest compilation, 'Future Bubblers 3.0'. And when we say perform we mean it in the true sense of the word, you really get a full show from the trio and there is no doubt in our minds these guys are going to be playing large arenas and festivals real soon if there’s anything right with the world! "

Having released four songs on Spotify up to 2020, 'Nutribe' were active recently releasing the funky 'Bludmoon' at the beginning of June 2020. The traditional brooding beat is paired with cheeky bars from the three respective members which produces highly entertaining results.

At The Invisible Wind Factory 2019

At the Invisible Wind Factory in 2019, music blog 'Getintothis' had seen the trio perform and reviewed their performance. " Nu Tribe, aka COLLECTA, consisting of members Yloh, Stickydub and Doopsman, were charged with getting things off the ground after the house DJ threw one final stomping tune into the mix. It's a hell of a job warming up for this one, not one we envy either. 'Nutribe' had played Deep Cuts for us back in 2017 in the Buyers Club and almost wrecked the place. When they appeared onstage they launched into an old school three man rap battle with a deep, deep bass. They went straight into an introduction of sorts, beatboxing their way through the list, their talents and their inspirations, they were certainly up for it, even if some of the punters weren't entirely convinced early on. It didn’t take long for everyone to warm up, though. Apart from Lucy, our esteemed social media manager and photographer, given that they performed in near darkness. Their set is mostly about their voices, there is very little in the way of background music in the mix, though to be fair they didn't need the support. Just the beats. The trio has an incredible charisma onstage, it's so relaxed it looks almost choreographed, although it's obviously not, and it's a hell of a lot of fun to watch. They seem to enjoy winding each other up, and that's okay in our book.  Lots of call and response, lots of love, troves of soul and a ton of fun. They left the stage after starting a 'Wu Wu Wu Tang Wu Tang' chant that reverberated around the room.  Quite the warm up."

Bludmoon

The Brighton & Hove News Music Team were out in force at the three day event of The Great Escape New Musical Festival in May 2022. This was their review of the band, " Next at Komedia was 'Nutribe', a hip-hop band from Liverpool. They've Yloh, Stickydub and Doopsman. Nutribe's set had a free flowing and improvised feel to it. Far from amateurish, this worked wonderfully with engaging the audience. At the start they pointed out to each other that they hadn't announced themselves, then seamlessly went into a rap introducing the band. Audience involvement was a big part of the set with the band almost involving the crowd in their conversations. The repeated call back “Big Love”, “Inside of the Place”, “Smiles on their faces” drew everybody into the act. Think Scouse De La Soul. Great fun, and with their audience participation 'Nutribe' left everyone smiling."
