Pool Of Sound - Professor Yaffle

Professor Yaffle is the alter ego of longstanding BBC Introducing favourite Lee Rogers, and also the name of his band. He is an artist specialising in psychedelic folk music and with an ever-growing collective of friends and musicians. These Galactic troubadours from Liverpool are on a non-stop journey to the edge of your psyche. Steering the craft through unchartered territories are Lee Rogers on vocals and guitar, John Edge on vocals and guitar, with Chris Simpson on vocals and bass guitar, Dan Brownrigg on guitar and mandolin, Phil Stevens on drums, Alex McCune on percussion and Olivia Powis on cello. Cosmic hitch-hiker Mark 'Hass' Doherty joins in on jews harp. Leader and songwriter, Lee Rogers, writes about what he sees around him, the good and the bad, pub crawls, death, drug addiction, even Everton Football Club. They began with seldom seen appearances on the live circuit, choosing to use YouTube as the venue for their mostly infrequent appearances. The songs, deftly woven intricate psyc-pop pieces, are influenced by just about everything from 1960s Laurel Canyon to French folk to Everton FC with their song, 'Put It Out', using a mandolin version of the 'Z Cars' theme. Making music that is spiritual and emotive, was the reason group rarely performed 'live' and therefore not an awful lot was known of them personally. Their breath-taking music can be found on their 3 studio albums; 'Cosmic Lullabies' (2017), 'A Brand New Morning' (2019) and 'Moments of Clarity' (2020) and are backed up by a couple of mesmerising remixes. 'Cosmic Lullabies' is full of beautiful songs, such as  'It Was Always You', 'Sometimes' and a wonderful cover of Michael Head's Newby Street. 'A Brand New Morning',which is a truly fantastically groovy and trippy hour-long experience which indicated the band taking a more prolific turn, producing consistent albums. They then announced the release of the third album.'Moments of Clarity' on CD on Friday 2nd October 2020 and on all platforms on Friday 9th October.

A review of the new album said, "His sound is mostly indie but has hints of ambience, electronic, jazz and folk. The new album opens with 'Time To Change', which is laid back and has some lovely melodies with hints of country. 'A Moment of Clarity' is an epic soundscape at over 8 minutes long. The sound is reminiscent of 'Spiritualized'. Other highlights include 'I Guess That I'll Be Fine', a beautifully melodic love song, with some superb trumpet playing. 'Turning Fear into Ecstasy' is quite moody and has Pink Floyd vibes. It is still chilled out, making this the perfect album for late evening listening. 'You Turned My Light On' is a short but heartfelt ballad, more reminiscent of the songs on the first album.
My favourite here is 'Sail Away' which has hints of jazz and brought to mind 'Shack - Hey Mama'. It ends on the stripped back 'It's All Over Now', which is very subtle and moving.
A beautifully arranged and orchestrated album, with wonderfully chilled out vibes. Highly recommended."

At Upholland Recording Studios, Professor Yaffle's Facebook and Twitter page has been giving indications of the contents of their fourth album - 'Let There Be Light Part 2'. - "Whilst unforeseen circumstances have slightly delayed the release of our 4th album, we've really enjoyed spending the additional time in the studio. But we can't wait to get the album out there and hope to have some news very soon.
✊🏻🎵
'Oh My God (Again)' from our upcoming 4th album 'Let There Be Light' which is due for release Spring 2022 after an unforeseen setback. We're made up to have wonderfully talented Lara Simpson, David Humphreys, Mike Smith and Jamie Brownfield performing on the track.
