Pool Of Sound - The Cheap Thrills

L-R Callum, Anton, Lewis and Terry - The Cheap Thrills

Formed in 2010, 'The Cheap Thrills' is a 4-piece garage/psych rock band from Liverpool with a line-up of Lewis Pike on guitar and vocals, Callum Fitzpatrick on bass guitar, Terry Eaves on guitar, vocals and keyboards and Anton Eager on drums.

Coming from Orrell Park, they all went to Primary School in Walton Vale and as bored teenagers spent a few years messing about playing music in Anton's tiny drum room at his house. Their first gig was in The Zanzibar, Liverpool when they were young and their sound probably sounded terrible but they had the opportunity, like many others, to perform on a proper stage with proper gear, with about a hundred people turning up and this propelled them forward. Renowned for producing sonic pop songs with catchy infectious hooks and melodies, which were crafted and recorded in Parr Street studios in Liverpool, together with them playing at festivals like Kendal Calling and Liverpool Sound City, their self proclaimed 'Scouse' vocals combine well with jumpy bass lines, spacey guitars and synths and enormous drums. Their sound, a combination of garage bands from the sixties and a resurgence of bands from the 2000s, caught the attention of End Of The Trail Records, who they signed to having seen their online application for ReverbNation. They had heard that End Of The Trail had done great work developing artists like themselves in the past and they found it brilliant to be asked to work with them. According to the label, what attracted them to the band were their songs, as they said, "Pop psych at it's best we think. At the time of writing they have just had their new single played on BBC Radio 6 by the mighty Steve Lamacq. Which is a great thing for any band in the UK!!!"

They released the haunting tones of 'Serfdom' in 2012 with the caginess of 'You Cry' which was then followed by a new single 'Open Eyes' recorded in Liverpool’s Parr Street Studios in 2013. There followed 'Rusty' and 'Machine' in 2015 and the EP 'Glare' in 2017 from their own studio. Their EP 'Glare' in 2017 was a coming of age collection of four singles, showing the bands progression as artists. Seeing the band live is also an imperative, with even The Guardian noting that "they're a blast live." After seeing one of their gigs you will probably agree. Rough Trade Records described them in that year as, "High octane garage infused indie rock".
They released a new single, 'Sentimentality' in 2017, a sugar rush of indie pop bliss, shaken and fizzed with crashing guitars splintering off punchy robust drums adding a healthy dose of garage grittine. It was backed by indie tastemaker/legend Steve Lamacq and featured on Spotify's 'Fresh Finds and Indie List'.
With studio time booked in to record its release at Parr Street Studios over the Christmas period of 2017, they then played a sold out show in Liverpool’s Cavern Club on the 20th of December and finished off 2017 with a special Christmas show at The Castle Hotel Manchester on the 23rd of December.
Spotify branded the band as one of their 'Hot New Bands' and have made them regulars on 'The Indie List'. The band received national radio play on BBC Radio 6 in early 2018.

They had a headline gig at the 02 Academy, Liverpool in 2019 to unveil their new EP 'Vue Du Monde', released by Eighties Vinyl Records, a glimmering and bold statement of intent that showed they meant business. Armed with an array of songs that stood alongside anything on your playlist at that time, their whole set was a non-stop success. It was incredible to see a crowd that knew every line and every beat to their new EP which was a little over two weeks old. It painted a picture of how far they'd come on their journey and that they are sure to go on. 'Smile When You Sleep' caused a stir in the audience while 'Saint Or Sinner' was a heart-pounding sing-along across the disco lit room.

Their recent singles 'Saint Or Sinner', 'Codependence' and 'Smile When You Sleep' were played by John Kennedy & Steve Lamacq on BBC Radio 6 & Radio X. The band have also had US airplay from the likes of Sirius XM, and KX93.5 California.
As of 2019 the band had surpassed half a million Spotify streams and since then have performed at BBC 6 Music Festival, The Great Escape and Liverpool International Music Festival. In March 2020 they made their US debut at New Colossus Festival in New York City.
