When The Stars Stop Shining

As the furore surrounding Jose Mourinho's position at Chelsea continues is it really down to the manager for the change in form or is it the case that there is an over reliance on one or two players to make the team tick?
It is well documented how Steven Gerrard and latterly Luis Suarez were 90% responsible for the success Liverpool enjoyed in recent years, indeed it could be that the departure of Suarez ultimately led to the sacking of Brendan Rodgers. Manchester United are being criticised in some quarters for their poor play but is that not solely down to the drop in performance of Wayne Rooney? Manchester City are not quite the force they can be when David Silva and Sergio Aguero are not in their team.
The absences of these 'stellar' names means that suddenly they are performing at the same level as most of the other clubs in the league. What is also evident is that the other teams have their own 'stars' who are playing at a level that is making people sit up and take notice and there are many of them who will be soon courted by the 'top echelon':-

Leicester - Mahrez
West Ham - Payet
Spurs - Kane
Southampton - Mane
Liverpool - Coutihnho
Everton - Deulofeu
The list goes on.

As for Chelsea, Eden Hazard has been the player who has carried Chelsea through some difficult moments over the past 18 months or so but has obviously hit a poor patch and Mourinho's criticism of him has certainly not helped him or the team spirit. Jose is a winner at all costs but his actions could eventually cost him.
