Home A Loan

Ross Barkley on loan at Leeds United

With FIFA planning to force the FA to stop allowing Football League clubs to sign players on temporary deals outside of the regular Summer and January transfer windows the Everton manager has voiced his disapproval.

Roberto Martinez quite rightly believes that English youngsters will struggle for playing time in the Premier League even more next season without the emergency loan system and he should know as Everton are one of the more impressive of clubs in nurturing the talent of young players and giving them opportunity at the highest level.
When he says he believes the move will further threaten the development of English youngsters people should sit up and take notice.
Everton's Ross Barkley and John Stones kicked off the 2013/14 season as bright young prospects with a handful of senior appearances to their names – they ended it as full England internationals.
At the beginning of this season Roberto Martinez stated that he was ready to give the same opportunity to another clutch of promising Everton youngsters – and challenged them to show they
are ready to make the same impact.
Since then Brendan Galloway, Tyias Browning and Gerrard Delafou have all made the first team with Luke Garbutt going out on loan.
Martinez is adamant that regular football at a lower level is key for young players to prove themselves and adds 'You can use that experience as a guide in your judgement of when to put them in your team.'
'Now we will not be allowed to send players out on loan so they'll struggle to develop.'
