Capital One - Supporters Nil

Surely it is time to call an end to this farcical competition, or give it a name best befitting its substance.
A cup too far?

Despite how much hype the media give it, and the fact the winner gains European football the following year, it does not disguise the fact that the last two managers to win this trophy were sacked by their clubs the following year.

The word 'dismal' comes to mind when you are watching any of these games. With less than half full stadiums watching teams with players who will not be at their club the following season, never mind playing in the Premiership the following week, matches are like pre-season encounters.

Even the senior players who are on the pitch give the impression that this is not what they signed on for when their contracts were negotiated.

Managers obviously like to give the impression that it is a chance for 'other players' to prove their worth, to fight for a regular place and that they like to win every competition they go in for, but actions speak louder than words.

It is only an opportunity for the players at smaller clubs to have their moment in the spotlight, or for journeymen to make a mark, literally on a high profile opponent.

Why not introduce a more meaningful European placement competition at the end of the season where the top placed teams in every division play each other in a seeded knock-out competition?
