The Little Big Man
Short, stocky skilful forward was a trend that Scotland had almost a copyright on back in the 1970s and 1980s - those who stayed over after the World Cup in 78 certainly wielded some influence on the culture of the Argentine football and all the copycat South Americans.
Instead of Dalglish, Robertson, Gemmill and Davie Cooper we now re: Suarez, Tevez, Messi and Kun Aguero. An explosiveness and tenacity that defenders in the Premier League cannot cope with. The English could never cope with the Scots in their pomp either.
Aguero setting the league alight (well burning up Swansea) may not be that surprising, he is a well regarded class act that has been on everybody's radar for years, it is perhaps more surprising that clubs cannot encourage a similar type of player in their own ranks.
The low centre of gravity that allows Lionel Messi and Wayne Rooney to bounce of defenders twice their size has become a forgotten quality. In fact it is possibly the quality of them all.
A shame that the current set of imports mirror a style and substance that Brits are longing for. Entertainment and aggression that will lift a crowd.
Like so many things - it was invented down the road - and is now exported from far, far away with big money nailed to its core.
