In what can only be described as an unfortunate allergy for a footballer,
Manchester City striker Mario Balotelli is believed to be allergic to certain types of grass and suffered swelling to his face during last night's UEFA Cup defeat to Dynamo Kiev. He is not the first, but perhaps the most high profile footballer to have suffered from this, but there is perhaps a 'positive' to be taken from it for City fans in that he is unlikely to be booked for 'diving' as this would be more injurious for him than most.
There have been other unfortunate incidents for footballers to have faced in the past, the most memorable being:-
David James pulling a muscle in his back reaching for the T.V. remote control.
Richard Wright ignoring a 'Do Not Practice' sign in the Chelsea goalmouth ' fell over it and ruled himself out of the FA Cup 4th round tie.
He also fell out of his loft injuring his shoulder.
Rio Ferdinand, as a Leeds player, put up his feet on a coffeee table watching TV for too long and strained his tendon
Dave Beasant dropped a bottle of salad cream on his foot severing the tendon in his big toe.
Steve Morrow was picked up by Tony Adams to celebrate their 1993 League Cup Final win but fell off his shoulders and broke his collar bone.
Charlie George cut off his toe mowing his lawn.
Be Careful. It's a jungle out there.
