Heroes of Their Time

Ronnie Clayton - Blackburn Rovers
A captain for club and country, Ronnie Clayton was indeed a one club man as he served Blackburn for 16years making almost 600 appearances. A stylish 'right half' he was comfortable on the ball and a player opposing fans would admire and applaud as he strode around the pitch with an air of authority.

Alan Devonshire - West Ham United
Following the triumvirate of Moore,Peters and Hurst was a hard act to follow. Alan Devonshire set Upton Park alight with his skillful displays down the left hand side of midfield and was not afraid to run at defenders. One of their most exciting players in the 1970's he served the club for 14 years and was also capped by England.

Frank Clark - Newcastle United
Many household names have played at St.James Park but Frank Clark is the longest serving in recent history. Known more for his later exploits with Nottingham Forest as player and manager, Frank made 457 appearances at right back for this famous club over a period spanning 13 years.

Fulham - Johnny Haynes
Johhny Haynes, the original Brylcream Boy, was undoubtedly Fulham's greatest ever player and was the first player to be payed £100 a week. The best passer of a ball of his time, and arguably since, he made a record 658 appearances for the club and scored more goals than anyone else until the 1990's.He was also captain for club and country.
