It took just two games for The Blades to knife their manager Kevin Blackwell in the back. How long before more follow their own path to the dole queue? Not too long.
He'd been there long enough and this season's been a disaster - hasn't it?
How quickly the enthusiasm and anticpation disapates.
Any previous good performances are erased from the memory and the other man's grass looks a lot greener all of a suddden. Whether you're sat in the Boardroom or on the terraces that sour taste in your mouth will not go away and you don't care what happens but something has to change because this season was going to be a lot better than the last one.
It's only August and only one or two games have been played but it's obvious what's wrong, isn't it? Sack the Board! Get rid of the manager! Get the cheque book out! As for that 'so called' midfielder, he couldn't even pass wind.
If only that shot had gone in after 15 minutes it could have been different. What was the 'wall' doing for that free-kick? Was the keeper at fault, who knows? The worst referee we've had for ages - we never get anything when he referees us.
Radio phone-ins offer similar constructive criticism. New investment is a must; why do we persist in playing 'so and so' when anyone can see he's just a 'lump' - it's about time they give the 'kids' a chance isn't it?
By the time the next match is on the horizon, the game has been digested and now it appears the team were actually unlucky on the day. The doubts are already beginning to recede.
Slow motion replays and pundits reviews have put a different slant on what we thought and the caretaker manager has told us that he and the players know what went wrong and thing are going to improve.
The manager who was sacked is already being linked to other clubs looking for someone with the necessary experience to take their club forward.
Football is back with a bang. Bringing out the passion, the over-reaction, the joy, the pain. It really is insane.
